Sharing our passion for music and learning with other children and young people is an integral part of Chetham’s School of Music’s activity and output. After a long break due to the pandemic, the Outreach team were very excited to take our dynamic string ensembles and their inspiring director Dr Owen Cox back on the road again!

June 2022 has seen our younger string players in the Violetta ensemble sparkle and interact with their peers at Croft Primary School in Warrington. Pupils were introduced to the different members of the string family, ask questions, and join in with the ensemble – with Encanto’s We Don’t Talk About Bruno most definitely being their favourite hit!

Serenata, comprising of Chetham’s School of Music Middle School’s string players, were warmly welcomed at Burnage Academy for Boys. Over 300 Year 7 & 8 students gathered in the school’s theatre to listen and enjoy a variety of pieces and presentations by Serenata players. All was beautifully balanced, until pandemonium erupted in the theatre when all joined in with the clapping of the Argentine tango rhythms. Just brilliant!

We couldn’t have wished for a nicer way to end the school year. Bravo, bravissimo tutti!

“Your students were inspirational, and our young people were in awe. We have had such lovely feedback and parents have been emailing to ask if their son can start taking music lessons. Just goes to show the power of music.” – Head of Careers, Burnage Academy for Boys
