Music in Residence is a programme which works with KS2 classes in primary schools across Greater Manchester.

The primary goal of the project is to work with staff, and consists of designated sessions with key members of staff (Music Co-ordinators or the nominated Music Champion) and more broadly with the full staff team. The aim is to develop personal skills and strengthen music in the entire educational setting, looking at ways in which music can be used as a tool for teaching and learning and embedded more widely and creatively across the whole curriculum.

The project is Covid flexible and the key components are:

  • 1 x 2 hr workshops (or 2 x 1 hr workshops online) with the same class (Yr 3-6). In attendance at these workshops, the Music Co-ordinator or nominated Music Champion should be present
  • A follow-on 1:1 session with the Music Co-ordinator or the nominated Music Champion to discuss the work they have observed and ask questions, look at skills development, provide signposting and offer support and guidance.
  • A second 2 hr workshop (or 2 x 1 hr workshops online) with the same class as above. The Music Co-ordinator or nominated Music Champion should be present again.
  • An additional 1:1 session with the Music Co-ordinator or the nominated Music Champion if required
  • A full staff CPD session looking at embedding music in the curriculum, methods of monitoring progress, new ideas for delivery and skills development

In addition, the project will be great fun for the students and they will learn lots of new things – both about music and other curriculum areas!

We look forward to working with schools and seeing music grow.

This project is delivered by our Outreach team of specialist educators and professional musicians, and has been generously supported by the Booth Charities and the Zochonis Charitable Foundation
